Making a Charge on Somebody Else's Credit Card With Permission
My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: Michigan.
I had to replace the engine in my car, a family friend OFFERED to help me since I just started a new job and needed my car to go to work. He gave me his credit card and we agreed I repay 100 per month..two days later he told his cc company to reverse the charge. I work at the dealer where the work was completed, how humiliating, I'm not a thief, I didn't use his card without his permission, I confronted him and asked why? He then called and told them to let the charge for through, now 6 months later he says he wants 100 per week or he will have the charge removed again...can he do this?
Re: I Borrowed Money Ey to Fix My Car Now 6 Months Later He Says He is Reversing Cred
The credit card company won't reverse the charges after 6 months.
Just keep making your agreed upon payments. That is your (oral) contract. If he sues you, as long as you have been making your agreed upon payments a court won't change things.
Re: I Borrowed Money Ey to Fix My Car Now 6 Months Later He Says He is Reversing Cred
Thank you, he made me look really bad at my new job when the merchant company requested the paperwork regarding the transaction. I signed my name on the slip, not his...I'm going to continue to pay 100 per month by money order. I wish I wouldn't have accepted his offer, it's done nothing but stress me out!

Whoa!!!!! YOU signed the credit card slip? That changes everything. While it would still be difficult to prove due to the time delay, if he reports this as fraud you have a big problem.
Why would you sign for his credit card? Who gave you the authority to do so?

He gave me the authority, I didn't sign his name, I signed mine for him..I told him today that we need to sign an agreement for the charge.
Re: I Borrowed Money Ey to Fix My Car Now 6 Months Later He Says He is Reversing Cred
Unless he has you listed as an authorized user of his card, you signing the slip means nothing. You need to tread lightly until you have a signed contract. While you could make an argument he allowed this to happen as it did, just the same he could say he never authorized anything
Re: I Borrowed Money Ey to Fix My Car Now 6 Months Later He Says He is Reversing Cred
I understand. I was thinking since he cancelled the first claim and let the charge go through he may look fraudulent trying to make another claim on the one he already closed

that could help you if he makes a claim of fraud or it could hurt you. He could say you did the same thing a second time without his knowledge or you can argue it is what you claim.
The best benefit to you is the fact it's been 6
months and (hopefully you have) proof of the payments you made to him.
Re: I Borrowed Money Ey to Fix My Car Now 6 Months Later He Says He is Reversing Cred
If you are stating that your ex is attempting to reverse a charge on his credit card, made six months ago, he is either mistaken or bluffing. Its far too late for him to attempt to do that.

Normally I would agree with you, but he originally reversed the charge after only two days, and then called the credit card company back and told them to let it go through, so there is no way the credit card company is going to accept a fraud claim six months later.
