Help With A Will

My aunt who has recently died in Chicago has left me with 25% ownership on her Condo. I live in NJ. The condo was recently sold and a ck. was made payable to her estate and given to the estate atty. I have called the atty. and he will not return my call being he was hired by the Executor of the will. I suspect something is going on quietly. I do not have funds for an atty. My question is how do I go about receiving my funds if they will not return my calls? Please Help!!!

Contact the probate court clerk.

Ask the clerk to send you a full copy of the file.

You will have to send money to get the file.

In the file, you may discover (for example) that the bills outweigh the assets, which would mean you get nothing.

In other words, you need to investigate this further.

How do I know when to contact the court. As of today nothing has been filed but the will and I have a certified copy of that. How do I know when the Estate Atty. has a court date. And how do I find out where the check is? Please Help!!!

If a will is being contested and you are on record as an interested party you should get notice of court proceedings. As was previously indicated, if you don't trust the lawyer to provide you with notice you need to find out if the court will do so, or otherwise stay on top of things yourself.

Distribution will likely be held up until the contest is resolved. If part of the distribution is not being contested, it's possible that a partial distribution would be made before that time. We know nothing about the case so it's impossible to be specific.
