What Will Happen if You Run Away After Shoplifting
okay I got confronted inside the store about putting something in my purse, which the employee did not see me put it in my purse, he just saw a open bag of pullups in my cart and assumed I put some in my purse. he told me he was about to call the police, I took the pullups out my purse and ran out the store. he chased me out the store and got the car plate number, which was not my car but I was driving. what will happen?

No one can say what WILL happen. But, it is possible that the police will come calling.

The friend who owns the car will probably tell the police who you are, so yes, they can show up at your door. Stop stealing and you won't have such worries.

Maybe yes, maybe no. Nobody knows. Guess you'll have to worry about it for awhile.

Meanwhile, I'd stay out of that store. All of them, if it's a chain. They will no doubt have you on video. There may be video of you stuffing the item into your bag.

What you did is criminal. You don't have to take the merchandise out of the store.

You don't seem to understand that the employee saw you remove the items from your bag. That's concealment. That in itself is a crime. That's all they need to go after you. It doesn't matter that you didn't leave the store with the items.

Ya, you keep thinking that. Most employees, let alone customers, do not know where all the cameras are in a store with a modest security system. Stores like Walmart; I can gurantee you won't know where all the cameras are. I was amazed to know how many cameras they had in the last store i was in. (I was doing some work where I was in their dvr room. They had a LOT of cameras and many of them were all but invisible to a person that didn't know precisely where they were.

What state did this occur in. Mine (Missouri) does not require exiting, although a sorta standard practice is to wait til you exit for proof-positive you passed any opportunity to pay for your concealed merch.

However, current statutes in quite a few states are written that concealment is proof of intent and LP does not hafta wait until you hit the door. Regardless of you ditching whatever. AND, it's quite plausible that the items you discarded was not all you'd concealed.

If there's a "wanted" issued for the vehicle, the owner could be quite surprised when they get pulled over and questioned.

One more thing.......unless you installed the CCTV equipment......chances are quite good that you have no idea where any cams are putting the peep on ya.

    Re: Shoplifting and Ran
That's a very distinct possibility. You ran after ditching the purloined merch, which in and of itself seem to indicate that the possibility was that you may have had more concealed or you had something that you didn't wanna face if Five-0 showed up.

You chose to get outta there as quick as possible. You chose to involve your friend/accomplice; the aftermath is wide open at this point it seems. You are looking at the possibility of how much effort the Loss Prevention and P.D. think you are worth.

For example.....if you've perpetrated other offenses at that locale, there could be past incident(s) that were recorded/documented......and the folks on the right side of the law were awaiting your return.

Boosting pull-ups? So a toddler is involved? This would be a good time to review your decision-making paradigm. You face the real possibility you're offspring will suffer the same fate that you seem to currently exist in.

This is a good time to rub your active brain-cells together and go forth and sin no more. Or don't! And continue your travel down Gloom-N-Doom Boulevard.
