    Florida apartment to condo
I signed a one year lease on an apartment that has subsequently gone condo. We would like to break the lease 2 months early. Can the owner of this unit hold me to an early termination fee of one month's rent? My original contract was not with this owner, but with the apartment complex.

I've looked at Florida statute 718.606, but it doesn't seem to speak to my situation. It allows for free and clear termination with 30 days notice to the *developer*, but the developer has long since departed the scene here.

    Please help.

Does your written lease speak to your questions?

The lease itself requires 30 day notice, plus the termination fee of one month's rent.

Am I legally bound by that even though the contract was not made with the owner of this unit, but with the apartment complex? That is my question.

Why am I bound to a contract which I did not sign with the owner of this unit?

Q: Why am I bound to a contract which I did not sign with the owner of this unit?

A: Read the contract. It is binding on the heirs, successors, and assigns of all parties.
