How to Find Out if a Party to a Lawsuit Has Filed Bankruptcy
If you have sued somebody and are concerned that he may have filed bankruptcy, how do you find out if he in fact filed a bankruptcy case?

If he's being sued, he should serve you and the court notice of the bankruptcy, so that your lawsuit is stayed (or, at least, stayed in respect to your claims against him if there are multiple defendants).

If you believe a case may have been filed with notice not yet served, you can check with the bankruptcy court where the case would be filed, or you can use the PACER service to access federal court records (it's a fee-based service). If you have a lawyer in your lawsuit, and your lawyer handles federal court matters, your lawyer likely has a PACER account.
