Can You Compel a Mother to Allow a DNA Test
A man in Texas was having a relationship with a woman, and she became pregnant. He assumed that the child was his until he was about to be deployed, shortly before the child was to be born, when she told him that she was also seeing another man. She moved in with the other man, and the child was born, but they later broke up. She then told the first man that she took a DNA test with the other man, and that the other man is not the father. The first man desperately wants to believe that the child is his, but his family is concerned that she's deceiving him. Can they make the woman agree to a DNA test?
Re: Can You Compel a Mother to Allow a DNA Test
The putative father can request a DNA test, or he can start a paternity lawsuit and have a court order a test. His family can't do much but encourage him to get a DNA test before signing an affidavit of parentage or if the issue of paternity ends up in court.
