What to Do if You Believe Your Landlord is Stealing Electricity
If you live in an apartment building, and your electricity bill seems very high for the size of the unit, how do you find out if your landlord is stealing electricity to power common areas? The tenant suspects that may be happening, but does not know how to prove it.

If the tenant has access to his or her breakers, the tenant can turn off breakers to try to see if power goes off in any common areas. But, better, the tenant can probably get assistance from the electrical utility to determine if their breaker box is connected to any outlets or fixtures outside of their unit.
