What Can You Do if Somebody is Spoofing Your Email Address
If somebody is spoofing your email address in order to send false and defamatory emails as if they come from your account, what can you do? The emails make the account holder look bad, so if anybody believes that they're real it would be embarrassing. He believes he knows who is sending the emails. Would he have a case against the person in court?

Depending upon the exact nature of the emails, it may be possible to file a police report and have the police investigate to determine who is responsible.
For a civil action, it is possible to file a lawsuit against a "John Doe" defendant, and to try to obtain the relevant IP information through subpoenas, but first check the IPs that you have to see if they're all from public Internet locations. For a lawsuit, particularly one against an actual suspect, it's best to discuss the evidence and any damages with a lawyer before filing, to help assess the chances of getting useful information or if the process may turn into a costly dead-end.
