Re: Civil Demand Scam By Macy's
Well i shop at Macy's all the time and i have never seen an outdoor retail stand. And you stated it was in a mall, a mall store would never do that.
Your daughter was probably shoplifting and just told you that so they won't get in trouble. And don't think because your daughter has money means she didn't steal. The typical middle class white girl crime is to steel, she might be doing it for fun or she wants something she can't steal.
I'm a teenager and i have many friends who are well off and steal. One my friends always gets money from her dad and steals everything and spends her money one things she can't steal; drugs, locked up products, etc.
I have a friend that was caught stealing and told his parents something similar. Face it, your daughter is a spoiled stealer.
Re: Civil Demand Scam By Macy's
by you not paying them does mean you are fighting them. Good luck with all this and I would say 95% that your daughter is not telling all the story. Leaving out a section or altering one. Kids do this all the time to stay out of trouble with thier parents.
Re: Civil Demand Scam By Macy's
cooljuno, sidewalk sales are very common and it's exactly that....a sidewalk sale. I've worked many of them and some have been outside on....you guessed it a sidewalk!! Some have been outside the stores in the mall and guess what else....it's called....a "Sidewalk Sale." Just because you've never seen one doesn't mean squat, I suppose it's beyond your vast shopping experience and many years of child adviser to the masses. She's her mom, she knows if her daughter is lying or not.....you don't. From the sound of it you're a piss poor judge of friends, don't judge her daughter or her story.....pinhead.
Re: Civil Demand Scam By Macy's
wait, you said it was a sidewalk sale, but then you said there were no exits anywhere around them...
did the girls bring inside merchandise outside without paying for it to 'the sidewalk sale'
i can see if they took inside merch. outside, and maybe they passed the end of the merchandise that was on the sidewalk and kept walking suposively towards a trashcan with the items semi-concealed?
it's hard to tell, i can see why your daughter wouldn't give you every little detail of the story, if she didn't want to get in trouble with you as well
i suggest you pay for it, or you might be ale to request a copy of the details of the incident if you call corporate LP

Re: Civil Demand Scam By Macy's
I was thinking this. Call corporate and request any info they will give you.. I.E. video, narratives, witness statements, etc. Then maybe you will see if the LP is wrong or if there is holes in your daughters story. From there you can decide what to do.
Re: Civil Demand Scam By Macy's
We all want to trust our children and its always the parent who is last know about their teens misdeeds. Parents (me included) refuse to see it because we fear it reflects on us. My teen was caught once for shoplifting a candybar no charges were pressed and I encouraged store to do whatever they feel they should. It was only a candy bar so they did nothing but I would have supported any action they took even though it caught be off guard! Since this "sidewalk sale" had no clear boundries its a judgement call. Your going to have a hard time fighting this and finding an Attorney willing to take case could be tougher still! Doing it yourself posing its own problems. If you lose fees on Civil Demand go up you pay court cost for both sides possibly! Teens lie to their parents its fact if you can't see that then your blind. I am not saying she did this (I wasn't there) I am saying that your fight will not be easily won. by the way if it was outside there is likely no video so its LP's word vs. your child!
Re: Civil Demand Scam By Macy's
redtoy, short of a court order or having the case go to trial there will be no show and tell of evidence. The company is under no obligation to hand out copies just to see if the defendant can see what happened, then make their game plan.....it doesn't work that way.

PaulE... thanks for the info... NOT EVERY company runs the same way. Yes by law most do not have to show any evidence untill court is needed. But I was thinking it would be a good idea because like it or not... some LP make stupid mistakes or do not have what they should to make a stop. If this is the case the company may drop the charges once she brings it up to a higher level and they look at what they have as evidence. Or maybe they will show her a narritive or a video and she can see for herself that her daughter did do this and it would save a bunch of time with court and fighting it.
Re: Civil Demand Scam By Macy's
I totally agree with Redtoy. I would approach the manager, explain the situation (along with your daughter) and politely ask that the matter and any evidence be reviewed. You might be able to clear up the whole thing....or you may end up disappointed with her behavior. Either way, you'll be better off.

The discovery process should be sought through your Attorney!
