Chatting With a Minor on Skype
So I am a 22 year old male that enjoys gaming online, and often, minors are included in my teams online. But earlier today, i was playing a popular online zombie shooter and a female player started talking to me. It was completely innocent at first, we discussed strategies and tactics of the game, and fought through the hordes of zombies together. she asked me if i would add her on skype, and i was reluctant because she said she was 16. But she assured me it was for team chat. I reluctantly agreed, and things were fine for a while. After a few hours i was done gaming for the day, when i see a skype call on my screen from her. I answered and she said she was horny and wanted to video chat with me. I felt very awkward and worried about legal repercussions I knew i had to withdraw from the situation. But at the same time I didn't want to kill her self esteem. So i explained that I was too old, and that if she was 18 i would feel differently about the situation. She of course didn't take to kindly to the rejection and started bombing my steam account with messages saying how she felt stupid and things of the self destructive nature.. So my question is, if she was to report me to her parents or authorities, would i be in any trouble with the law? I said nothing sexual to her, at worst a few things might be taken as flirty. But I would never go so far as to sext with a minor, I'm not an idiot.

It is not illegal for an adult to chat with a minor. It is not illegal even if the chat is about sexual topics. It would be illegal for you to have sexual relationship with her in some states (this varies, as the age of consent is set by state law and in the U.S. ranges from age 16 to age 18 depending on the state).

It would violate federal law and the law of some states to receive photos of her that are sexually explicit, including not just nude pics but also anything else that shows her engaged in anything sexual, and that means of course that seeing her do anything sexual on a web cam, phone, etc, would also violate federal law.

What you have described does not appear to cross the line into anything sexually oriented as described above so it is unlikely any law was broken.
