Contacted by an Investigator About an Online Chat With a Minor
A twenty-year-old man in Texas has been contacted by an investigator. The man has been told that he will be criminally charged for talking to a girl online who had claimed to be over the legal age. The man doesn't remember the online chat. The investigator says that the man must pay for the cost of psychological treatment for the girl. What should he do?

First and foremost, he should avoid talking to potentially underaged girls on the Internet, let alone talking to them in sufficient number that he's not even sure if a specific exchange took place. He should also refrain from sending or receiving pictures or soliciting sexual activity with strangers.

Realistically speaking, this is probably a scam. If the man finds out that he has been charged with something, he should speak to a lawyer ASAP. But the "you hot chatted a minor, so you have to pay us money" scam has become a huge, criminal enterprise.
