Renewing a Green Card After Misdemeanor Convictions
A permanent resident of the U.S. needs to file to renew his Green Card, but has been convicted of two misdemeanors (criminal mischief, wrongful appropriation) within the last four years. He is concerned that if he applies to renew his Green Card he will trigger deportation proceedings, and that if he travels abroad he may have difficulty reentering the United States due to the convictions. What should he do?

He should consult with an immigration lawyer.

It appears that only one of the charges involves moral turpitude (wrongful appropriation), so applying for renewal should not trigger removal proceedings; but without the details it would be premature to declare that no action will be taken if the convictions come to the attention of DHS.
