Small Possession of Marijuana in Michigan

Okay heres my situation..

Me and my friend hopped into my friend Brian's car. So there was him and another in front, and me and my friend in back. As soon as we hopped in the car (at a supermarket parking lot ) 3 men dressed in suits came to the car. THey told us to get out of the car because they need to search it. Well, we simply got out of the vehicle and they began to search us. Nothing was found. They searched the car and found a little over a dime bag in the seat of my friends car. Well the cop pulled us off to the side and questioned us. No one admitted to it. He took down our information, and no tickets or citations were given. He simply said, be expecting a phone call. Well that was at the end of August, and im writing to you now near the middle of February. A letter was sent saying I need to appear to court within 14 days for possession of Marijuana.

My question is, what can I expect? Im 18 years old, and have never been in trouble before. Can I get far without a lawyer? Should I ask for the 7411? Help is appreciated. Thank you

When you get to court, plead not guilty and ask for a public defender.

If you're eligible for 7411, it makes sense to petition for 7411. It also makes sense to get help from a criminal defense lawyer.

Well If I dont have the money to pay for a defence lawyer, i can get one from the court can't I? And if I plead not guilty, do I then ask for the 7411? Or talk to someone about it first?

You can petition for a court-appointed lawyer. You can talk to the prosecutor about 7411 at your pretrial.

What can I expect my outcome to be? Probation? Fines?

Most likely? Probation, fines, possibly community service, possibly a driver's license sanction.

SO I should be expecting a drug test pretty soon i take it?

It's possible that you will be tested soon, as well as at random times during your probation. It's common sense that if you're being charged with a drug offense you should stop using.

yeah ive obviously stopped using, but ive been drinking water like crazy, cuz ive been a regular user for some time now.. If theres anything else I should know, it would be appreciated. Thanks again

Okay, theres something a little different now to the situation. They're saying that they saw me with the bag of marijuana and that i took it from my car to his. And they have some people subpoenad to court suppposoly testifying against me. Now i know of 2 people who have been subpoenad, and those were 2 other people who were in the car with me. I know they wont say anything against me.. But what is the significance of this? Does this change the story? My moms getting me a lawyer to be safe.
