    Emancipation for an Abused Child
I'm seventeen and I live in Carlsbad, NM. My mother kicked me out the day before Thanksgiving and I have messages on my phone to prove it, where would I go to get emancipated without too much trouble so she doesn't have to worry about anything that has to do with me?

You would need to file a petition with the children’s court (a division of the district court) seeking emancipation. It would be a good idea to have a lawyer assist you with it as the petition has to meet certain requirements. How close to are you to age 18? If you have just a few months to go then you may turn 18 before you could get a ruling on the emancipation. At 18 you are an adult and emancipation would no longer be necessary.

However, emancipation is by no means the only option out there. It's just as likely that you'll find yourself in foster care or living in a group home (or taken back home and your mother spoken to severely) as it is that you will be emancipated.

Do you have a job sot you can afford to pay for your rent, utilities, food, transportation, phone and countless other things ? Do you have a place to live or someone that will sign and be responsible for the rent, utilities, ect ?

Do you plan on going to college ? If you do, you will have to have your mothers info and signature if you are going to apply for financial aid.
