There were back arrears in the case owed to the state for support received by my mom in the amount of $7500 which I have a balance sheet again from the state showing that amount was paid. There was an additional $4000 that my mom should have received but never did the State has told us we would have to sue my dad for the 4000$ but the balance log shows he paid 11000 and the original support order shows there was a balance due to the state in the amount of 7500 they have told us since it is my dad's responsibility to pay this amount again because they put that additional money back into the state support system instead of paying it to my mom as they should have.
"yes I do but I don't look for people that will come to work and not expect pay. You are doing exactly that when you seek a pro bono attorney. "
That is totally not what a case of this type would be doing this would be alerting the people that pay into this system to check there statements and make sure the money they earn that's supposed to be getting to the other parent the funds they are having taken away from them and in cases like mine that the child or the childs custodial parent is never receiving and aren't aware that the funds are ever even being taken from the non-custodial parent. I know many single parents that berate and dog out the "DEAD BEAT DAD" and in situations such as mine I never would have know he even had paid the child support he was court ordered to pay as my mom never received anything at all not 1 check and none of us even knew that this was happening until 10 years after the support order was supposed to have been closed when they were still taking money out of my dads paychecks every single week! My mom and dad didnt talk really and so she thought he just hadnt ever paid it he thought the payments were being sent to my mom but the records show after the state received the back arrears they just stopped cutting checks since they were not due to the state anymore they didnt ever notify my mom never ended the support order according to the paperwork I have and never sent the money where it was supposed to go this is something that needs to be seen by the public eye this is gross misappropriation of people's money that is just disappearing into the state system its border line whistle blower status case wise!
There are also times where I work for nothing because it's the right thing to do and people shouldn't have to pay hundreds of dollars to an attorney to have an initial consultation I always do initial consultations for my work I view it should be the same every attorney Ive spoke with said they will take 30mins to look over my paperwork for a minimum of 250$ that's the cheapest Ive spoke with thats to sit look at papers and say I may or may not take the case that's garbage! An initial consult should be free!
So what is your business? I may be able to use some free work.
First, there is almost a zero chance of obtaining anything from the state. I'm pretty sure there is a statute of limitations issue here even if your mother was actually owed anything. Beyond that, while you may think a lawyer should work for
free, they are not obligated to. There is a good chance they already know there is no chance of recovery and would rather you just go away but if you insist on them sitting for an hour to read whatever, they want to be paid. The idea of a free consultation is it gives them a chance to sell you more. If they know there is no more, well, the free consultation is simply a waste of their time. They just aren't going to waste an hour of their time whether you want them to or not. If you insist on them reviewing the case, they expect to be paid. It's only fair.
By the way; does your doctor do free consultations when you think there might be a medical isssue but aren't sure but you just want them to look to be sure? How about your mechanic? Plumber? Electrician?
people deserve to be paid for their time. Stop being a cheapskate and believing they should work for free. An attorney sells his knowledge. If you want some of
it, you should be willing to pay for it.

Now I see why every attorney demanded payment for
their services.
It's time to grow up.

I wonder why it took until you're 35 and Dad's dead for it to become an issue to be dealt with...

My question involves a child custody case from the State of: Colorado
Okay so here's the long and short of it as best I can describe it in words. My mom raised me had a child support order that I have all the documentation for showing my dad paid payments which my mom never received I have the full payment log from state records showing checks with payments made to on the paperwork an n/a (no account) We have contacted the local support office and were told we would have to sue my dad again to receive the payments for the child support that the state already received. There were back arrears in the case owed to the state for support received by my mom of $7500 which I have a balance sheet again from the state showing that amount was paid and an additional $4000 that my mom should have received and did not the state says its my dad's responsibility to pay this amount again even though he already paid it and they say it was put back into the state support system as they tried to send it to my mom but sent it to the wrong address and had the check returned twice however there is no record of this payment being issued anywhere in the 17 page line by line document showing all payments sent and received that is notarized by the state. I would like to find a lawyer to pick up this case that would be willing to do it pro bono or something to that effect as my child support case should have closed in 1999 and my dad was paying child support on my case until 2013 again I have all original documentation proving this on my desk I turned 35 this year and he paid child support until 2013 and again my mom never received any of the payments he made and they are saying they see that he paid and know they didnt iszsue the payments but still won't do anything about it so I want to pursue either suing them for the amount owed to my mom as she could really use the money or I would like to take it to a loc al new agency to report on I have tried contacting news stations already noone will talk to me about it and I cant find a lawyer to look at the papers I have at least to zee if it is worth pursuing! Please help!
Aaron
If your mom received any kind of government assistance then yes, the state will take that money from child support and keep it to pay off what your mom got in assistance. So if she was on EBT or any kind of government assistance - she won't get the child support for the time she had assistance. That's what happens with my ex's oldest son. Whatever I paid the portion they took for his oldest son went back to the state because the mom was on assistance before he was identified as the father.
If your mom doesn't care then there's no one who will do anything.

Not true. Many lawyers give free half hour consultations. You just have to look for them. My divorce lawyer gave me a free consultation. Worked out payment with me. You just have to keep looking until you find the right one.

You did get advice. You just don't like it. Some lawyers will do a free consultation as I said. But as stated - do you think most occupations do anything for free? I highly doubt you do a lot of things for free because it's the "right thing to do." You probably get something out of it. Otherwise you wouldn't have a "successful business."
Your mom got assistance - the state took their money back. That's probably the bottomline. But if it was such a big deal why didn't you help your mom sooner?

Maybe you could find an attorney that would barter with you. A consult with them in exchange for the same value of services/product you have.
