Child Support Case Was Reopened After Relocation
My question involves a child custody and child support case from the state of Ohio and Florida. I have had my daughter since she has been born when she was three her mother and I spit up and I brought my daughter to Florida with me. She is now 17 years old. Her mother has been collecting support on and off for her when I'm working. I was arrested a couple years ago for non payment. I went in front of a judge here in Florida and they closed my Case. Now I am working and Ohio is garnishing my wages again. Florida has tried multiple times over the past ten years to contact Ohio however they have been non responsive. I don't know what to do. I can't afford a lawyer and I have school record to prove I've had my daughter including a case closure letter from Florida. What can I do ? Can someone please help me.

Is the child support that is being garnished for current child support that you don't owe? Or for arrears that you were accumulating prior to the order being changed. You would still owe for any amount that you got behind in from when you were working on and off and were ordered to pay child support.

You appear to be stating that mom got a custody and child support order in Ohio, that you later moved with the child to Florida, that Florida at some point in time closed its collection case, but that the Ohio support order and collection case remained open. Now you're back in Ohio, and Ohio is enforcing its custody order. Is that correct?

Did you neglect to modify the Ohio order when you took custody and moved, such that Ohio kept adding to your support arrears for the fourteen years you lived with the child in Florida, or is this matter about child support arrears that accrued before you obtained custody and moved to Florida?
