Can a Doctor Charge for a Issuing a Prescription After Canceling an Office Visit
My question involves malpractice in the state of: South Carolina
Is it legal for a doctor to cancel your monthly appointment, but still charge you for the visit to refill your medication? My monthly visits are $250 to have a drug screen and see a doctor. My doctor cancelled my appointment this month, but is still charging me the $250 for an e-script to be sent to my pharmacy. Is it legal to charge me for services not performed?
Re: Charging for Doctor Visits That Didn't Occur
Did you sign an agreement or Pain Contract with this doctor ? If you did, these things are usuallly written out in the agreement or pain contract. Unfortunately, most patients don't take the time to carefully read everythng before they sign it in their doctors office. A doctor can charge for missed appointments, appointments if they aren't cancelled in a certain time frame, refills, pretty much anything the want to. Again, if you signed an agreement with your doctor, this info should be in it. You did agree to it by signing the agreement, if it was stated in it.
