Re: Emancipation in Texas - questions!
i am 17 with a part time job at a Day Care and my fiance has a part time job at the disrubution center if i move out with him at 17 ( he is going to be 19 in May) then can we get in trouble if i can support myself. We will have to pay his dad rent since we will be living in a house on their land and paying for the lights and water and food. Does this still count? Can i file for emancipation if i do this?
Re: Questions About Emancipation in Texas
NO you would not be 100% "self" supporting!
Re: Questions About Emancipation in Texas
ok what if i get my own place in my name and i payed for everything? How do i file for emancipation? Is there anything my boyfriend can do if he is living with me? Can he still live with me while i am getting emancipated? Will he get in trouble for staying with me during this process?

ok what if i get my own place in my name and i payed for everything? With parental consent How do i file for emancipation?Go to courthouse they will have papers but your parents might have to begin process Is there anything my boyfriend can do if he is living with me?If he lives with and is paying part of expenses you are not 100% self supporting Can he still live with me while i am getting emancipated? Not if your parents object Will he get in trouble for staying with me during this process?
Yes its possible your a minor and your parents could get a protective order againist him. Keep in mind anyone living with you and paying any of the bills nulifies your being 100% self supporting
Re: Questions About Emancipation in Texas
ok what if i just live on the land and he stays with his parents b/c i know my mom will look things up after i leave and i want all the legal documentation before i walk out the door. They have told me to leave before, but everytime i walk out the door they say that they will call the cops if i leave the yard. So is there anyway for me to use that?
if i am living on my own fully will this get me emancipated?
Does it only have to be a mental or physical thing or can it be just b/c i know i can make it on my own and this is what i choose to do?
If i leave at 17 arent i considered an adult in Harris County? I heard that the cops wont pick me up if i am not on the streets and have a way to support myself that all they will do is try to talk me into coming back home, but if i say no then they cant really do anything about it.

They have told me to leave before, but everytime i walk out the door they say that they will call the cops if i leave the yard. So is there anyway for me to use that?Nope
if i am living on my own fully will this get me emancipated? No there is process to go through that your parents must start
Does it only have to be a mental or physical thing or can it be just b/c i know i can make it on my own and this is what i choose to do?Abuse is not criteria for emancepation that is something you should report to CPS
If i leave at 17 arent i considered an adult in Harris County?Look upo your state laws but no I donot believe so I heard that the cops wont pick me up if i am not on the streets and have a way to support myself that all they will do is try to talk me into coming back home, but if i say no then they cant really do anything about it.
That is for Police to decide. Keep in mind you are under your parents care and they can legally take what ever measure they see fit to protect you this could include
. Juvie boot camp
. Protective order againist BF
Nothing you have said thsu far would convince me much less a judge to grant your request if parents okd it. Furthermore your entire motivation appears to be with your BF again not very convincing. If you want emancepation first get a job! Stay in school begin saving.
Re: Questions About Emancipation in Texas
i have a job! i can support myself and i plan on going into the national guard. My mom doesnt want me to go b/c she says its not for me. i need to find a way to go to continue school after high school and this is the only way. i dont have the money for college and neither does my parents the guard will pay for everything. i want to write childrens books and own a coffee/ book store kinda like Barns & Nobles. This is what i want and she wont let me have it so i am trying to do everything in my power go around her to get it, but it doesn't seem to be working. How do i do this? i will graduate @ 17 and i need to get into the guard before i do.
Never mind i forgot what i was supose to add. . .
Re: Questions About Emancipation in Texas
You have been told over and over that you are not meeting criteria. You need parental consent which in your own admission you wont get. Do you think the Guard will allow you to join if you become a runnaway!? This is first admission of any plan other than dumb runaway plans or live with my BF plans. The Guard can wait till your 18 if paretns wont consent far as emancepation I dont see it happening and by the way its not a wham bam thank mam process it takes months!

Off topic:
You should talk to your school counselor and ask if financial aid will help with your college expenses.
Re: Questions About Emancipation in Texas
It is possible to be deemed self-supporting while renting a room or sharing an apartment, as long as the court concludes that the minor will continue to have an appropriate living environment if emancipated.
A court would likely view a petition for emancipation based upon the sharing of costs in a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship to be of questionable stability, as well as being somewhat skeptical of a petition for emancipation which could come across as "I want to move out because my parents won't let me live with my boyfriend".
