    Possession of Explosive Chemicals
My question involves criminal law for the state of: California

I have no idea what sub to put this in, so I'm sorry if I am in the wrong forum, but my question involves nitrogen triiodide. Is it legal (if used for demonstrational and educational purposes) in California? If not, is there a permit that allows it? Thanks!

    It's a volatile explosive compound.

I haven't found any laws about the specific compound in CA but I'm betting that CA laws on explosives in general address the use of dangerous explosives even if not by name.

Before you make it or use it I suggest you contact your local PD and fire department and ask.
