Prosecution for Animal Abuse
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Florida.
This is my situation at the moment. I was 21 and it was 4 years ago approximately January, 2012. In anger or for whatever reason I decided to hit two different dogs. I was fostering these dogs through a dog rescue. I would sometimes hit the dogs repeatedly in the head and it got so bad that the dogs would urinate whenever I would got angry. I remember picking picking up and slamming the dogs on my carpet floor and this happened about 3 times in total. So on Sept, 7th, 2016 I called the sheriffs office in my county and told them everything that i did to the dogs. I wanted them to take me to jail so that the situation could finally start to be over. However, they decided to baker act me instead because I said I was suicidal. I can't stop thinking why they didn't take me to jail because i confessed to them about everything. However, I feel like the dogs that i tormented deserve justice and i deserve my punishment. What I want to do may seem crazy but I want justice to work in this situation and I am having a tough time figuring this out. I know the statue of limitations have expired in my case but can't the defendant waive the statute of limitations. And if I can waive the statute of limitations. Where do I go from here? I feel like if I go to the sheriffs office again they will baker act me again. Is it possible to file criminal charges against yourself? If not can someone still file charges against me? Who would be willing to put a case together against me?
Thank You for your help...
Re: Animal Abuse- What to Do
Stop calling the sheriff. You are crazy. If you need to talk to someone, consult an attorney.
Re: Animal Abuse- What to Do
There is no way you are going to be criminally prosecuted anymore. So forget it.
Instead, I suggest you get some private therapy so you can deal with your remorse.
When you start getting comfortable with the idea that you might forgive yourself, then volunteer at an animal shelter and give back some.

So an attorney is someone who can help me? I may be crazy for trying to do what I am but it is the right thing to do. Will the attorney charge me for just a consultation?
Re: Animal Abuse- What to Do
Speak with the mental health professionals who are managing your mental illness.

Have you tried to make a donation to the ASPCA? I would start there.

You can’t waive the statute of limitations. It’s over with at this point. Find some way to deal with your emotions with it, with professional assistance if you need to.
