    Accused of Stealing Jewelry
I needed some money so I got my girlfriend to agree to let me pawn some of her jewelry.

Now she's mad at me and wants the jewelry back. The pawn shop says that it doesn't have the jewelry.

What will happen if she reports to the police that I stole it? Is the pawn ticket going to be enough evidence to support a theft charge?

She can report to the police that you stole her jewelry. The pawn shop will have records indicating what you pawned, as well as the information on the pawn ticket, and if that information matches her theft report then the police will have every reason to believe her report.

If the pawn shop no longer has the jewelry, then (a) you didn't redeem the pawn on time, (b) you in fact sold the jewelry, or (c) the pawn shop will have given you an explanation of why it no longer has jewelry that it was supposed to be holding for you. If we're in category (c), then perhaps the pawn shop will compensate your ex-girlfriend for the value of the jewelry or let her pick out roughly equivalent items if you repay your loan -- and perhaps your ex-girlfriend will find that to be a satisfactory outcome.
