    Assault to Prevent a Suicide
I was suicidal and I grabbed a knife and was threatening to hurt myself. My husband recorded everything on his phone. Rather than calling 911 and waiting to see if I hurt myself he took the knife away from me, and he hit me pretty hard to make me drop it. Somehow his mother found the video on his phone and she gave it to the police. Now he's charged with domestic violence and protective services has removed our children from the home. How can he be charged with a crime for keeping me from hurting myself?

His defense lawyer will review the video to see what it shows, and whether it is helpful to your husband's defense. The police and prosecutor believe that it shows a crime, and thus to an outsider it would seem that the events as recorded on the camera are not as suggestive of an intent to assist as you appear to believe.

Protective services apparently also perceives it as an inappropriate level of violence, and may also be concerned about your claims of being suicidal and whether the children are safe from domestic violence or can presently be safely left in your care. You need to make sure that you're getting the mental health treatment that you need. You should consult a lawyer about your own situation, and how you might get the children back into your household.
