Negatively when a potential employer ask if you have ever been arrest ro convicted of a crime you must answer yes. If you have no yet gone to court on this charge find a criminal defense Attorney and discuss diversion.

Yes most ask if you have been convicted (keyword) of a misdemeanor and then again felony. They also often say within certain time period (example 7 years) Employers are different so its not a given

In reality, if you were not convicted in court and you don't disclose it, it is doubtful it would be an issue. However, not disclosing it is being dishonest about being dishones.

i know people who have worked for wal-mart that have a criminal background and failed to put it on their application. they got hired, only to be fired a few weeks/months later when the company found out about it.

i look at it like this. you can be honest and mention your criminal background on your application and be less likely to be hired. OR you can be dishonest, not mention it, and gamble on rather or not the company finds out the truth after you've been hired and fires you. then again, you might get lucky and get hired even if you are honest about it.

whatever the case, unless you just need a few weeks income, don't bother lying to major companies, because they most certainly will check out your background.

Let me tell a little story. I know someone who was hired at a major retailer as as associate. No background or limited background check was run but person was hired. All is well then this person is promoted once again a background is run because associate will now have passcode and be responsible on some nights for cash. Background comes up with incident that was missed or ignored before. Now assocaite (now supervisor) had lied about a misdemeanor arrest on original application. Needless to say when arrest was seen assocaite was terminated for lieing on application. My advice tell truth on application if your hired it cant come back and bite you in butt later.

Okay I got a question, the stuff above was kind of confusing..

I got caught by Target for shoplifting with my friend.. I would give you a whole story about how I wasn't out the door yet and its there fault but I've come to my own resolution.

Anyways long story short.. They made me give all my information.. NAME, DOB, ADDRESS, etc.. They gave me a warning and fined me $250... Will this come up on a "Database" of major retail chains? If so which ones if anyone can give me that information.

Will this prevent me from getting a job? or at least limit the amount of places I can work?

    I'm 16 years old...

If you apply for a job at a business which subscribes to that database, or with the store where you stole, it could affect your chances of employment.

The worst that would happen is that they don't hire you.

Esteem is the most commonly used background check amongst retail employers. www.esteemnet.com has a complete list of companies that use the database.
