Harassment Through Sexual Texts and Pictures
My question involves criminal law for the state of: California. So I was engaging in exchanging some risque texts here not all that long ago, and I thought that the person I was texting gave the ok to go to the next level. To be clear, this person did not explicitly state that this was what was wanted, but definitely implied it. So I sent over an x-rated picture, and this caused a seriously negative reaction. After this, I sent no more pictures and only one or two texts, so I have not continued contact with this person. Could this be considered harassment? I didn't intend to harass the person, I simply escalated our conversation to where I (mistakenly) thought it was desired to go. Further, once the error became apparent, I stopped all activities.

Then what's the issue? No it's not harassment if you aren't talking to the person.
Stop sending racy pictures and messages over text. You have no clue who the other person is - even if it's a friend's number.
Re: Harassment Through Sexual Texts and Pictures
I understand that not talking to the person mitigates the issue, but isn't sending unwanted racy pictures harassment? Ot is that only if its continued?
Re: Harassment Through Sexual Texts and Pictures
Yes, sending unwanted communications can be a misdemeanor crime in CA (PC 653m).
And sending X-rated pics to a minor can be a felony. So, rather than have virtual friends, try getting some real ones.

To be clear, no minors were involved. How likely then would it be for this to be looked into? Would any of the circumstances affect this?

So, you personally knew the person on the other end of the phone? This person was a personal, real life friend? Or, did they simply SAY they were an adult?
No matter,if you send unwanted electronic communications you could - in theory - be charged with a misdemeanor crime in CA. However, absent an ongoing practice even after they said to stop (if they did) then charges are unlikely.
