Oklahoma consent law, just want to make sure I'm ok
To make a long story short, I met this girl last week, looked about 18-20, found out she was 16, she will be 17 in 4 months, I'm 23. Now I'm not asking because we did anything, I've only seen her in person twice at her job and talked on the phone a little. I didn't go looking for her, it just kinda happened that we met, and so far I like her, not your typical girl at 16. I'm still not sure if I want to be anything but friends, I'm almost a college graduate and she is still in highschool but I guess that is beside the point. Everyone is telling me I can't do anything with her because she is not 18, and I always thought that was the age of consent. I searched the forums and the internet but everything on Oklahoma consent laws were at least a year old. So before I pursue anything more with her I just want to make sure I am in the clear here, I have to much to lose over a girl. Everything I've read says 16 is the age of consent, and I just wanted to make sure there have not been any new laws enacted. Is there any law that states you can only be a certain number of years older like in Texas? I also read where our governor was trying to get a law passed where it would make it illegal for someone working for a school to have relations with someone under 18, I'm not sure if it has passed or not. I work at a work-study job here on campus, would that make me one of the school employees the law is refering to? Thanks for the help.

Most states state that 16 is age of consent. However if parents disapprove they can seek court order to keep you away. If you pursue seeing this child (yes shes a child) no one will believe you wont have sex or attempt it. This includes acts otehr than intercourse. You could be labled a pedophile or similar by your peers and face other judgements from others that could effect your lifestyle work etc. I must ask why does a "man" your age need a relationship with a child!? Legally you might be fine but morally you will be frowned on. Like I said parents can also place court orders on you as well to protect their child. My advice stay away!

I read where someone said to just ignore most your posts so that is what I'll do. I could care less what you or anybody else thinks, but you have your opinion and I've got mine.

Ok, well maybe I took that the wrong way. You have no idea how much I have been contemplating if I want to go anywhere with this. I can't find a decent girl at my tiny college. The government says it is legal, so what is the problem, just because other people may frown upon it. I don't live my life by other people's standards. Can you not have feelings for someone just because your 16? I don't think her parents would have a problem with it since they let her date someone that was 21. So what if I was 24 and she was 18, would it be ok then, she will be 18 in 16 months. Most people I have told about this act the same way you do. I'm not going to be in this town a whole lot longer anyway, so what people think dosen't matter. I haven't been happy in a long time so why can't people just be happy that I am happy.

I know this is not the "judge my morals" forum and it is about legal advice, so I don't want to get in a debate over that, I just wanted to state my opinion on it. That's all I'm going to say.
