Can You Be Sued for Unpaid Legal Fees After Bankruptcy
My father hired a lawyer to represent him in a business lawsuit. He is being sued by his lawyer for unpaid legal fees.

He had a bankruptcy discharge after the legal services were provided. Can he still be sued?

His business can be sued for the fees, even if he declared personal bankruptcy. Any judgment may have to be paid out of business assets.

His personal liability was likely cut off by the bankruptcy. An exception might exist if the lawsuit alleges that he committed fraud, and a verdict is rendered on that basis. If this is simply a collections matter and he is named as a defendant in his capacity as an individual, he should attempt to use his bankruptcy discharge to have the case against him dismissed. Otherwise, he should discuss the detailed facts with his bankruptcy lawyer.
