Petit larceny sentence after a missed court date
My friend and I both got caught shoplifting at a department store. Same exact charges were brought upon us. She went to court, got sentenced, and received 100 hours of community service. Meanwhile I had moved out of state in the midst of this whole thing for a job. My lawyer kindly kept going to court and explaining I was working and the court date was postponed. At my last court date, back in November my lawyer I think maybe a little peeved I kept postponing court, claims he didn't get my message, and told the court he hadn't heard from me. So, to make a long story short, I have a bench warrant now. My lawyer and I have come to good terms again this week, and will be going to get the warrant cleared and get a new sentencing date. My question is, because I didn't resolve this matter quickly, and I had a warrant, will I get a harsher punishment than my friend did? This was my first crime & arrest. Nothing else, not even a parking ticket. And, since the incident, last April, I've been crime free as well. Just working in my new state. I'm worried though that because I didn't get this taken care of right away the court is going to see me as some deviant and give me a terrible sentence.

There's a significant chance that the court will give you a sentence that is roughly the same as that given to your co-defendant. There may be differences because you now live out of state. The best person to estimate the sentence you are likely to receive is your lawyer.
