Can You Be Charged With Identity Theft for Having Somebody Else's ID
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan

I have a friend who kept 2 IDs in his wallet and now he lost his wallet

If found by the cops, will he be charged with identity theft? He contacted the ppl on the ids when he found them but they never responded so he just kept them after like 4 years. Will this turn out bad for him? He's very worried.

Has he used the IDs or has he simply had them in his possession?

And why on earth didn't he simply turn them into the DMV (if they're DLs) or the police department?

Typically, simply possessing someone else's ID is not a crime and not an issue. It is when the ID is used fraudulently or used to intentionally deceive that it becomes an issue.

So does your friend coincidentally resemble the other people whose ID he has?
