Given a Write-Up at Work That Shouldn't Have Been Issued
My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: ok so I work in downtown Portland and we are having a key issue. The last two weeks there is someone coming into our office and stealing important keys. I was never told to take all the keys to the office and put them in a bag. So therefore I have worked there for a year and now I have write up because I was never told to put all the keys in a bag. I refused to sign my write up too. What should I do about this situation?

Legally, you have no recourse. There are no laws prohibiting employers from writing up employees for pretty much any reason, including bogus reasons.
Please note by signing the write up, you are not agreeing to it. You are simply acknowledging that you've seen the write up. If you refuse to sign the write up, your employer may legally fire you for insubordination, and being fired for insubordination will make it difficult for you to get UI benefits.

IMO, you should sign the write up, but I'm sure you don't want to hear that.

Well, it's not so much a matter of not pride or admitting you have done anything wrong as you seem to be seeing it. Just sign that you have seen and received the write up. Otherwise, as it has been pointed out to you, your refusal may be taken as insubordination (refusing a direct order by a supervisor) and you can very legitimately be terminated for insubordination, which may keep you from receiving unemployment benefits. If you are very unhappy with the employer and the way you have been treated, begin looking for another job right now, while you still have this one, even with a write up. And then you can move on and will not have to worry about being out of work without income and whether or not you qualify for unemployment benefits.

FYI, there's nothing in the law that says you can't be written up for doing/not doing something unless you've been told to not do/do it.
