Can You Get a New Driver's License in Georgia if You're Suspended in Another State
My question involves a driver's license issued by the State of: Alabama
I have a suspended license in Alabama. I never had the money to reinstate it. I moved to Georgia almost two weeks ago and would like to get a Georgia license. I read another post that said that if the new state is part of the interstate compact that they would honor the suspended license in the old state. From what I have been able to find out Georgia is NOT part of the interstate compact. Does this mean that I can get a Georgia license without having to reinstate my license in Alabama?? Thanks for your help.

Probably not. While Georgia is not a member of the driver’s license compact (DLC) it is a participant of of the national driver register (NDR), which is a database of license information maintained by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). So Georgia will likely know of the Alabama suspension. Georgia Code § 40-5-22(c)(7) prohibits the Georgia DMV from issuing licenses to applicants whose licenses are currently under suspension from other states. So if the Georgia DMV does learn of your Alabama suspension you won’t get the license. You’ll need to get the Alabama license suspension cleared first.

That stinks. The worst part is I got suspended for claiming drugs for my now ex husband to keep him out of jail. :(
