How Long Does It Take to Process a Shoplifter's Paperwork

Hello i was wondering how long it would take like walmart or any retail to finish processing the paperwork of a caught shoplifter? would it be usually done the same day and then the next step is passed on to the company's lawyers to demand a civil pay?
