Tourist Visa was Denied for the Mother of a Pregnant Permanent Resident
I and my husband we are legally (green card) in usa since 2012. I got pregnant, my due day is in may 2016 and i really want my mother to come from the Ukraine for my delivery day and help me fist few week. We did an invitation and letter from my doctor to confirm the pregnancy. The interview had a negative answer. I don't understand why?!
There is anything i can do for it? The is any law? Do i have any right to call some parent to help me with my child? Please, help!!! I'm really upset, this was the 4th time in 4 years she tried to come for visiting.
    Thanks.

Re: I'm Pregnant and I Did Invite My Mother from Ukraine to Usa, Visa Was Denied,
You absolutely have the right to call your Mother. But you do not have the right to insist that she's allowed to visit you.

Were you trying to get a visitor's visa? Do you know why she was denied in each of the past four times?

You have no right to have a visitor come to the US to provide care for you and/or an infant. That is WORK. That is the likely reason she was denied. The social worker at the hospital can assist you in locating a person for you to employ to assist you if you feel you really need help. If you are upset about her not coming to assist you, you are going to have a very difficult time in the US. While some cultures expect grandparents to care for an infant, healthy American women generally care for their own - and find the time spent caring for an infant to be an important phase in the mother child relationship.

Both you and your husband should take advantage of the infant care classes at your hospital. The only family member you need in the delivery room is the baby's father. Caring for an infant is not that difficult. I cared for an infant as well as three older children under the age of 7 with only the assistance of my husband who had a very demanding full time job after he finished with his work - and I had to get the two oldest to and from school every day in the winter.

    You can do it!

Invite her for the child's first birthday party.

Most likely the reason she was denied was the reason most people in the situation are denied -- out of concern that she would not return home as promised.

I very much doubt that the USCIS has developed a policy of refusing to let grandparents visit their newborn grandchildren if they indicate that they plan to help out their child with the baby during the visit.

If Trump gets his way though ...

I agree, I doubt "helping mom out" is considered working. The reason is that grandma doesn't likely appear to have sufficient ties (job, etc...) to her home or made some other statement that led the embassy to believe she had the risk of not departing at the end of her allowed stay.

Yep, Trump's wives show that there are some jobs you just can't find any US Citizen who wants to perform.
