When Will You Be Eligible for Diversion After Shoplifting
My question involves juvenile law in the State of: Nebraska
I just recently got caught shoplifting at sephora. Cops came and I know I'm getting charges. They said I'll be getting a civil demand in the mail from sephora. I've heard not to pay this and I probably won't considering sephora probably isn't too worried about a minor stealing makeup, and all of the items were recovered. My question is, will I be eligible for diversion? This is my second charge. Last year I was put on probation for a paraphernalia charge, which I don't understand why because it was my first charge and I had never been put on diversion before. I completely probation very successfully and never violated. I've been told that every one should be eligible for diversion at least once. So my question is can I be eligible for diversion even though I've been on probation?

How old are you? If you're a minor, your refusal to pay a civil demand could end up causing that amount to appear as a debt on your parents' credit reports.

You have already been on diversion once, and you chose to commit an additional crime, which means that it's much more likely that the court will deem you to need a more serious consequence.
