Harassment by Text Message and at School
My question involves civil rights in the State of: California.
I am a 17 year old female in California, who just recently got into a disagreement with a coworker at our restaurant. The next day following, a another coworker, that goes to my school, was telling people about my "shouting war" with the fellow coworker. I was confronted about my work fight multiple times at school, even from a teacher! I texted the coworker that was spreading the word that my fight at work has nothing to do with school, and that i was already having a bad day. So we both got into a texting argument, she was saying it was okay to talk about me and i was trying to tell her that it was not okay, etc. and it eventually got heated. I ended up telling her to grow up. shortly after that i got an anonymous text from someone telling me "u grow up first, u grow up first" and then i asked who it was, and then they sent me a link to a phd. i asked who it was again and they said someone who cares for you... and they were telling me that "insecurity iss a disease". I begin to get harassed by a person i do not know who it is. But here are the facts, the texts must have been shared between the girl and I because the harasser sent me a text with the direct response shooting back to me. I was at school getting bullied as this girl was firing at me and I hid in the bathroom crying. I feel belittled, targeted and harassed. is there anything I can do? I also told my manager about this issue and that i feel uncomfortable going to work now and he said that we will talk and told me to save the texts and do not reply to the harasser. The fact that I was confronted by people does not bother me, so much just the fact that I was getting harassed and targeted. The real motive of the anonymous texter was to harass me by making it sound like I needed help because of a stupid text fight. please help, and thank you
Re: Folks, I Am Unsure if Legal Actions Should Be Taken,
You were in the wrong initiating a conversation with the co-worker demanding she cease talking. Sorry but nothing she did was wrong other than continuing to engage in the immature text war.
Mm as to the other party; you mentioned a couple texts. If that was it there is nothing actionable there.
Sorry but you have to realize you don't get to control the speach of others.
Re: Folks, I Am Unsure if Legal Actions Should Be Taken,
I’m sorry that this has upset you so much. But from your description of it my take of the situation is that this largely boils down to teen drama and not something for which the law would provide you a remedy. Not everything that happens to you that upsets you is something that the law can fix for you.
