Simple Battery Committed by a 17-Year-Old
My question involves juvenile law in the State of: Georgia
I recently got into an argument with a 15 year old boy that goes to another school in our county. I am 17 years old. During this argument i got so heated and decided to punch him in the jaw. I ended up leaving and he called the cops. Him and his dad might press charges. What could i possible be dealing with and what could possibly happen to me when it comes to charges and fines and jail and so on...? Please help i am scared and need help with finding answers

Was he injured? You could end up on probation in juvenile court. You could be responsible for any restitution that is necessary. You will most likely be ordered to anger management.

As you are 17, in your state should charges be filed you will be prosecuted as an adult. You should consult a lawyer.

Have you discussed this with your parents? It is possible they won't press charges, but your parents need to be in the loop about this, and if they do carry this further, you'll need an attorney pronto, thus your parents need to be involved now. You could very well get a slap on the wrist, and you could end up prosecuted as an adult, end up with a permanent something that will follow you for the rest of your life and may influence your prospects of certain professions.

Or this other young man and his family could decide to leave it alone and take other kinds of revenge on you later. That's scary.

You never can tell about these things. But you are learning a bitter lesson right now. NO MATTER WHAT SOMEONE SAYS TO YOU, it doesn't give you a free shot to punch them in the jaw. With a great deal of luck, and if he's like six times bigger than you, (one of those real mature looking 15 year olds) and you look very immature and tiny the court may not see it quite so harshly. But we can't predict from here. Tell your parents. Don't hide this, deal with it. And be apologetic and humble in all your dealings with others regarding this incident. Not "Hey, I opened up a can of whoop ass on him! Nobody talks to me that way!" But "I made a terrible mistake and I am very sorry."
