How to File a Response to My Ex's Summons for Child Custody
My question involves a child custody case from the State of: Tennessee

I recently received a summons from my son's father for full custody. I'm doing my case pro-se and can't figure out where to submit my response to him. I'm living in another state so I can't do it in person.

    Then you need an attorney.

In the meantime, assuming Tennessee actually still has jurisdiction, you can look here https://www.tncourts.gov/programs/self-help-center (I suspect you already have), and perhaps here http://info.legalzoom.com/file-petit...see-24457.html.

Do you intend to be present at the hearing/s?

I can not afford an attorney. I do intend to be present at any hearings.

We are also not divorcing. We were never married, only dating.

We can't hold your hand all the way through. If you can't afford an attorney and Legal Aid can't help, you have a lot of learning to do. Let's see what we can do here though.

What is Dad actually requesting? Is this an initial custody determination, or a modification? If it's the latter, what has changed?
    When did you move?

    Which other state is involved?

I don't think she's asking about the custody arrangement, but procedural questions which we are not prepared (as already stated) to walk you through this. It's time to get to a law library and learn everything you can about filing motions, responsive, acceptable means of service, the local rules of your jurisdiction (or the court's jurisdiction since this is an interstate case), etc.

Check out a local law school
