Changing a Child's Name After Her Father Goes to Prison
My question involves civil rights in the State of: michigan

My daughter just turned one,and her father is going to prison for his 4 th domestic violence.... she carries a name that isn't blood to her what so ever... her father carries a name that's not blood related to him either.. and the man's name he carries is his ex step dad's which he was adopted.... If he's in prison do I have a good case to change her name... He has other kids that have half there mother name half his mom's maiden name... it's all messed up

Re: Changing My Daughter's Last Name
Your daughter’s last name is apparently the same as her father’s. That her father’s last name is the name of his adoptive father rather than his biological father isn’t important here. The basic rule is that for a name change of a minor both parents generally must agree to the change. If he will not agree then it is likely the name change will not be approved.
