    Plea Bargains and Sentencing
    My husband is currently encarcerated in Georgia and he was offered a plea of count one maximum 20 yrs and or a fine and 3 yrs supervised can someone explain to me what this means so i can get some understanding and try to help my husband understand more because he thinks his court appointed attorney is trying to mess him up but I'm trying to get some understanding so i can help him understand more and better before he actually accepts the plea agreement. thanks

    If the entire deal is that he will plead guilty to a felony that carries a maximum of twenty years in prison, then upon his pleading guilty to that offense he would go through a presentence investigation and then be sentenced by the court in accord with the charge and the facts of his case. Read this.

    This is what the document says according to my husband "count one maxium 20 yrs and or a 100,000 fine and 3 yrs supervised"
    I think a presentence investigation has already been done

    If so, then he knows what sentence has been recommended to the court. He can speak with his lawyer about the likelihood that he'll receive the recommended sentence.
