How to Get a Minor into College Without Parental Consent
I live in Washington, but hope to move out-of-state for college.

My question is, can a 16-year-old who has graduated from high school enroll in college and stay in a dorm without parental consent OR going to court to be emancipated? My parents don't want me to move out unless I'm married(although they have acknowledged that they can't stop me from leaving when I turn 18). They probably wouldn't be okay with me going to a secular college and staying in a dorm, either. I don't know if I am eligible for emancipation, since in my state you have to prove that staying with parents would be detrimental, and my reason for wanting to leave is nothing more than it being a pain in the butt to be around them. Do I have to get their permission, or is there a way I can work around that?

You not only would have to have their permission, you would have to have their cooperation and financial support. You cannot enter into a legally binding contract for most situations at 16 so your parents will be required to sign any contracts. They would be bound by those contracts so should you fail to pay, they pay.

You need your parents’ consent until you hit age 18. You won’t qualify for emancipation just because you find living at home a “pain in the butt” or because you want to attend college. Moreover, no college is likely to admit you without a parent also signing for that because the college is at risk entering into a contract with a minor since contracts with minors are generally voidable at the option of the minor.

You also will not be able to get any financial aid without your parent's cooperation until you are age 24, unless you marry or have a child of your own.
