Parents Won't Help a Minor Get a State ID
I am 17 and trying to get everything situated for me. For two years I've been asking my mom to take me to get an ID to be able to work. She won't let me do it, because im still under 18 can't do it on my own and can't do it without my papers. I do not know my social security number. She is also refusing to hand over my sons papers. What can I do? I have not found anything that can help me get mine or my sons social security cards.

No idea what state you are in but your mother has no legal control over your child's social security card or anything else. You are the legal guardian and have legal authority over your child.

The police may help you get your child's documents. They may choose to not get involved though. If they won't help you would need to sue your mother for them

you mother has a right to keep your documents at least until you are 18. That's just the way it is. If she refuses to turn them over once you turn 18 you can try the police then court route. It may be simpler just to apply for a new card and whatever other documents you need

jk's post (reasonably) assumes (a) that your mother is not the legal guardian of your son, and (b) that these are documents your mother did not pay for. That may be correct, but... If your mother paid for the documents, they're hers. If your mother was appointed by a court to be your son's guardian, she has the right to retain his legal documents.
