My question involves criminal law for the state of: NC

My friend have no record at all and was recentcly working at Waffle House. They stole $158.00 out of the drop box to pay rent which was $165.00 a week. They have went to court and got an court attorney. They went back the second time and they told them that its going to grand jury. what does that mean? last time my friend knew was it was on camera that's how they got caught. But since they record are clean what are they expected next its been 2 months since they been back to court.

Your friend needs a criminal defense attorney. Your friend needs to stop discussing his or her case with you, or should post here.

The grand jury will look at the evidence and decide if there is probable cause to support any criminal charges. If the grand jury decides there is probable cause that he committed some offense it will issue an indictment on that charge. That will formally start the criminal prosecution process. Your friend needs to get a criminal defense attorney if the jury returns an indictment against him.
