Caught Stealing Clothing from Macy's
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Texas
I have a couple of questions, this past Saturday I was caught stealing from Macy's, I was working at the moment and the called me to go to the LP office and then she told me to tell her the truth and I did I had stole a couple of shirts and vest, she made me do a statement and then she called the police bcs they said they were going to press chargers on me. I paid everything I owed to Macy's at the moment and the police arrived and say that a detective was going to call me Monday or I could just turn myself in Monday. He didn't give me no ticket or anything but said I was being charged with a class b misdemeanor, Monday I go to the police station to turn myself in but they say they don't have any arrest warrant in my name and the detective never called me either, the police had said that Monday they were going to call me but they didn't ? Could this mean that Macy's dropped the charges bcs I paid everything I owed? Or it just take days in order for my arrest warrant to come to the police station?
Re: Caught Stealing Clothing from Macy's
Macy's isn't the one who decides if things will be prosecuted. Your criminal behavior harms society and it is the state that prosecutes. It's possible the police or the prosecutor decided not to prosecute, but it could just be that things are busy during the holiday season. I would sit tight, but not get my hopes up that charges are not coming.
You can also expect, independently, to get a letter from Macy's "lawyers" demanding civil restitution for the damages scoundrels like you cause them.
Re: Caught Stealing Clothing from Macy's
Thanks for the advice, I talked to the LP lady and she said it might take weeks to call me even though she had first said there were going to call me Monday, even the officer said that the detective was going to call me Monday and I didn't get any calls.
