My question involves juvenile law in the State of: North Carolina. I shoplifted from Michaels. I am under the age of 18 and I really regret what I did. I don't know what to do. I may have been seen by the camera, should I go return the idems? They were around 240$ worth of merchandise. This happened yesterday and I really need help.
So do you want somebody to tell you you won't get caught or to keep the stuff since returning it could result in you being prosecuted or something else that excuses your illegal, immoral, and stupid acts?
since it is a rarity a shoplifter starts with stealing hundreds of dollars of merchandise, that suggests you have done this before, a lot. Thieves start small to gain experience and work up to major theft as they become comfortable. So how long have you been shoplifting? Been caught before?
The help you need won't be found on an Internet forum. It's going to be found at home, in church, or in the courtroom where maybe you will face jail or even prison so you understand the more fun side of your efforts (yes; sarcasm)
now you get to either wait to see if you will be caught or maybe actuslly consider returning the merchandise where you risk being charged with the theft
the decision is yours and yours alone. You have no defense if charged regardless which path you take; you did steal merchandise.
Heres an idea; hire an attorney who can return the merchandise for you and if ultimately caught through camera footage or whatever can vouch that you did hire him to return all (?) the merchandise you stole. That might help in your sentencing.
This is my first time shoplifting. The merchandise was a bunch of markers. I do realize that it was awfully stupid of me to do this. Im going to return the idems right now. I'll take the consequences that comes after this. Thanks for your reply.

must have been a BUNCH of markers to be worth $240. I've seen some pretty pricey art supplies but I cannot imagine being able to hide $240 worth of markers in my xxl coat.
Yes there was 30 and each of them were 7.99. I sound pathetic.

If you are honest and sincere I hope you have learned from this and having learned from this, nothing happens with the store.
If you are honest and sincere, to prevent a relapse, print out a copy of this thread and carry it with yiu. Any time you feel the urge to steal, take it out and read it. Maybe it will help you realize stealing isn't worth the risk.
Thanks man. I just came back from returning the idem. They were very sympathetic about the situation and said that they were glad I did it. I learned my lesson and would not do it again. Thanks again for replying to this post and scarying me a bit.

Talk to your parents. You need some really serious help and counseling! This type of behavior is a symptom of a lot of problems, which need to be dealt with.
