    Landlord Shut Off the Water
My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Texas
I'm in between jobs and 2 weeks late on rent. The landlord shut the water off 2 days ago themselves. Is this legal, and what is my recourse. I've got a new job that begins right after the new year. Thanks.

No, the landlord is not allowed to do that. If you know how, you could simply turn the water back on yourself.

Thank you for the response. There's a padlock on the water. Is it ok to cut it off, will I be breaking any law to cut it off??

    It's illegal.

Your recourse is addressed in Section 92.008 of the Texas landlord tenant statute.

You'll have to sue him in small claims court for the money you are entitled to.

I agree with the suggestion that you just go turn it back on. If the landlord turned it off at the meter you might need one of these:

Are you certain it's the landlord who did this or the water department? It's not unusual for the water department to padlock a meter if bills are owed.
