Can an Adult Get Emancipated to Qualify for FAFSA
My question involves guardianship in the State of: Colorado
Good morning everyone,
My question is about how to go about emancipating myself from my parents, but at the age of 22.
I pay for everything myself, including school, however, due to my age and the amount of money my parents make, I cannot receive any money from FASFA. I also don't meet the requirements for any student loans. I need a cosigner, and do not have one.
I have heard about people emancipating themselves so they are able to actually receive money and afford schooling.
My question is- have I missed my deadline? Am i forced to wait two more years to afford school?
Or is there a way I can still emancipate myself?
Thank you in advance for the responses.
Elizabeth

Not going to happen. Even if the state of Colorado was willing to emancipate you (which they are not), it wouldn't make you an independent student by FAFSA's rules.

Unfortunately I agree. The magic number is age 24.
