Giving a Store a False Address After Shoplifting
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Texas

I shoplifted a couple weeks back and I was pulled into the LP office. They asked for my information(id, ss#, address, weight?, phone number). I also signed something(IDK WHAT)
I gave them everything correct except my address. They took down the address from the drivers license and I could have told them that I had recently moved (the other place doesn't exist anymore) but I did not. No police were called. They said I was lucky that they were on duty. She only banned me for 24 hours and that I could go because I was cooperative. She also said that I should get a letter from Walmart in the mail in 14 days. If i don't then I should call the Wal-mart's asset protection service. I called back the store the Monday after the incident to finally tell them the right address. Someone else answered and they said that they already sent in the information. But they took down my right address over the phone(I guess to send it to whoever they were sending the other information to). Its exactly two weeks from the incident and I did not receive any mail. I'm thinking that the letter is a fine, but it could be anything. I dont want to miss it and find out that because I didnt pay, they doubled the fine or worse make them angry at me and they notify the court/police. The law cannot know about what I did.

Im thinking about calling tomorrow, but my roommate suggests that it might not be a good idea, because they could have forgotten about me. I doubt that they have though because I gave them all my information. So im on the fence. I dont see how calling would make the situation worse, because im actively trying to figure this whole mess out and not trying to hide.

Believe me, Walmart didn't forget about you. If they send the civil demand to an address that you can't be reached at, and can't get in contact with you, Walmart will forward your information to the prosecutors office for a criminal matter. If the prosecutors office finds ground to prosecute you, they will have a warrant issued for your arrest. You will have a criminal record and who knows how much money it would cost you to resolve the criminal complaint. If you're driving a vehicle when arrested, you can expect your vehicle to be impounded.

    So you have two options.

    1. listen to your stupid roommate.
    2. Get in contact with Walmarts lost prevention to clear this matter up.

If you clear it up, it may only cost you a few hundred dollars. If you want to roll the dice, it will cost you a few thousand dollars, a criminal record and a life long pain in the ass trying to get a job.

WTG is living in a odd world. Walmart does not follow up civil demands with criminal complaints.
