Adding a collection fee prior to sending debt to collections
 I attended school in MN at a university and completed my last class in April 2006. In July 2006 I still had not paid the bill which was $2500, and the school added a $900 collections fee and then sent it to collections. I paid the $2500 bill and the late fees except for the $900, but I am wondering if the school can add the $900 fee onto the bill prior to sending it to collections. I don't remember signing any form that says they could charge me whatever they want if I'm late, unless it was in the fine print during registration. I just think that there should be a maximum fee that they could apply? Typically if you send something to collections you get what is owed to you, minus the collections fee is what I thought. I believe in paying my bills, but think that they added an extreme fee way to early?

They don't have to pay a collections agency, in order to bill your for collecting your delinquent tuition.
