    College Student Charged With MIP
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Oregon

I go to Oregon State University and recently I was at party with some friends when we decided to walk to another party from his apartment. I was walking in front of the group because I had thought that they were ahead of me but later when the cop was writing me my ticket I noticed that they were all behind me. Anyways my friend and I were walking and for some reason I had a beer that I had not finished before we left the apartment in my hand and the place we were going wasn't too far away so I figured I'd finish it pretty quickly. We turned a corner and I saw two cops on the left side of the sidewalk and another on the right side watching every kid that passed them and I realized that it was too late to turn around so I just did the best I could to hide the beer in between me and my friend, while we were passing the cops my knee hit the beer and I spilled it right in front of them and picked it up but the cop had already grabbed me. When he asked to see my ID I said sure officer but I have to be honest with you I'm under 21. I gave him my ID and was told to sit on the curb with my legs crossed. He looked at my ID and then immediately started writing me a ticket. They then took me to a little shed because it had started to rain and there they breathalyzed me and I blew a .074. The cop wrote me the ticket and told me that he was going to put in his report how cooperative and respectful I was with him and sent me on my way. My question comes of what I should do now, I think it's pretty obvious I'm guilty but I don't know if I should plead not guilty and hope that the cop doesn't show up to the court date. (I heard that if they don't show up it usually gets dismissed) or should I plead guilty and try to take the diversion class. Also I talked to a friend and she had gotten an MIP before but they gave her a faulty court date that was on a training day or something and also the court date that the officer gave me is on a Tuesday and the courthouse isn't open on tuesday. I completely understand how stupid this was for me to do and I get that it's all my fault, this is the first MIP I've ever had and other than a speeding ticket the only other run in with the cop I've had. Thank you for all your input on this matter.

Hire a lawyer and see if the lawyer can get you diversion. Otherwise a conviction will haunt you all your life.

I talked to the courthouse today and they told me that it's not for sure that I can get the diversion but the judge will decide when I go to court. How much would a lawyer run for an MIP I don't have a lot of money since I'm paying for school.
