    Soliciting a Minor on MeetMe
someone I know has this profile on this website called meetme which is a dating site kind of but more like a friend meeting site
and he is gay and he wants to have more straight guy friends because all of his other gay friends has guy friends who isn't gay and he wanted some as well
he was browsing guys between ages 21 and 23 and he came across this one page of a guy who was 23 and he wrote him and asked if he wanted to be friends and he said he wouldn't hit on him and would respect his wishes that he wasn't gay and then the 23 year old sent him a nude photo and of course he opened it and then once he did he asked the guy how old are you because he always asks that to be sure when he gets nude pics and the 23 year old said im 16 so my friend said don't you ever send me any nude pics again and I am reporting you and he did that and then he said he was 23 I guess because he was scared hed get reported
so some more websites said my friend couldn't get into trouble because 1 he didn't ask for the pic 2 the guys page said he was 23
    do you all agree
also he is contacting some attorneys he even made several accounts trying to get the person to admit again he was 16 but the person kept blocking him so he reported his page as child porn to meetme admins
so should he worry because hes worried sick he can get into trouble

    Re: Meetme Issue
Your friend should cease attempts to contact the suggested minor. His attempts to "fix" things are digging him deeper. He should not take legal advice from porn sites. He can very much get in trouble for child porn if the subject is under 18 no matter what age they claim to be. He should remove all such material and stop communicating with the suspented minors, leaving meetup if it has to come to that.

If he is contacted by the police or prosecutor or anybody else about the issue, he should immediately get to an attorney.

how can he be in trouble when he never asked for the photos

no porn site gave him advice it was yahoo answers law and ethics section

here is the update his friend and parents contacted this kid and he claims he is 23 and we even said we contacted law enforcement and he claims he wouild show them his id that says hes 23 so I don't know wouldn't u think he was telling the truth and also he says the nude pic was his
I don't see why he would lie now since we have made 3 profiles and he still sticks to his story he says he just said he was 16 because my friend was gay and he was messing withn him

All he needs to is POSESS them. It matters not how he got them. He should STOP possessing material he knows or suspects to be minors and that depict either naked genitals or depict some sexual act (real or simulated).

OK, but it's still BAD advice (and I don't know what context it was taken form) and incorrect.

Again, he's playing with fire. There's no way to WEASEL out of this crime if it comes to light that the child is actually under 18 at the time the pictures or correspondence occurred.
The large amount of sexting by minors is causing a lot of heartburn when people end up with convictions and lifetime sex offender registration for things they didn't realize was illegal.

well he has talked to this person five times on different accounts he made up and this person claims they are 23 and I believe them because what my friend told me is someone who has had every chance to tell the truth and fess up if he was lying and I think hes telling the truth because one time he said if you call the cops they will see my id and it says im 23 so he wouldn't have said that if he was 16 so I believe him
my friend just NEEDS TO WATCH WHAT HE SAYS AND DOES FROM NOW ON SINCE HE HAS BEEN IN TROUBLE LIKE THIS BEFORE
IN SIMILAR SITUATIONS SO THE COPS WONT GO SO EASY ON HIM IF HE GETS IN TROUBLE A THIRD TIME

Again, it doesn't make one BIT of difference. If the child is 16, he is going to be found guilty. He needs to stop deluding himself.

What on EARTH makes you think a hospital will give YOU any information about a birth?!

The hospital cannot and will not give you any information whatsoever unless you have the written authorization of the person you are seeking information about. That is Federal law.
