Passing an FBI Background Check After Shoplifting

Hi, i got a summon for shoplifting in MINNESOTA 14 years ago. At that time, i didnt know the law, just paid the civil fee to the retair store, and thought it was over. Recently, i could get immigration benefits through marriage. I told the immigrant attorney this case, and was shocked. I did a FBI background check, but had not record in their database. So, what shall i do for the next.

What did the immigration attorney suggest?

Let the attorney figure it out. It's unclear you have the details (or even could relate the details if you had them). Whether or not it is on the FBI background check is IMMATERIAL.
When you get around to certain immigration filings you have to report things even if they don't appear on your record. Further, the FBI background check is not inclusive of all the state records.

In what alternate reality is stealing acceptable behavior? Stop making excuses and certainly do not try to hide your offense from immigration officials.
